Personal Narrative media about vizag
This design sprint project focused on crafting an engaging and interactive personal narrative, capturing a first hand experience of Cyclone Hudhud’s devastating impact on Vizag. The aim was to create a visually compelling media piece that not only presented factual information but also conveyed the emotional weight of the event
through the narrator's own voice and perspective.
To achieve this, I selected a powerful incident—Cyclone Hudhud—and conducted interviews with those who had endured the storm, gathering personal insights and reflections.
By weaving the narrative around these personal accounts, along with the narrator’s own voice notes, I aimed to
create a layered storytelling experience. The design integrated visual contrasts, showing “before” and “after”
images of Vizag, and highlighted the resilience of the community in the face of adversity.
This multimedia narrative is enhanced with QR codes linking to additional resources, offering viewers an
immersive experience that combines visual storytelling with interactive elements. The final result is a
poignant portrayal of survival, community strength, and recovery, illustrating the impact of natural disasters on
individuals and society.
Situation
As part of a design sprint project, the goal was to create an interactive and compelling personal narrative centered on a significant event. I chose to depict the experience of Cyclone Hudhud’s devastation in Vizag, aiming to capture the emotional and physical impact of the storm on the community.
Task
My objective was to design a visually appealing and interactive media piece that would convey not only the factual details of the cyclone but also the deep personal reflections of those affected. The challenge was to tie the narrative closely to the narrator's voice and bring an authentic, firsthand perspective to the story.
Action
I conducted interviews with individuals who had endured the cyclone, gathering firsthand accounts and voice notes to integrate into the narrative. I structured the design with contrasting visuals—showing pre- and post-cyclone images of Vizag—and created interactive elements like QR codes linking to additional resources. This approach allowed viewers to engage deeply with both the visual and emotional aspects of the story, enhancing the personal connection to the events.
Result
The final design effectively conveyed a powerful, layered story of resilience and community strength. Through the combination of visuals, personal accounts, and interactive elements, the narrative provided an immersive experience, allowing viewers to feel the impact of Cyclone Hudhud and appreciate the collective efforts of recovery and rebuilding in Vizag.
