App Design
The ZeroZest Project addresses India’s critical food waste problem, where 69 million metric tons of food are
discarded each year, resulting in a ₹92,000 crore loss and significant environmental harm. The project aimed to
create a solution that helps individuals and communities reduce food waste, save money, and support
sustainable practices.
In response, the ZeroZest app was developed, featuring inventory tracking with barcode scanning and expiry
alerts to prevent spoilage, recipe suggestions to creatively use near-expiring ingredients, and options for
food donation and composting. ZeroZest not only empowers users to manage their food efficiently but also
fosters a community- focused approach to waste reduction.
By encouraging responsible consumption and providing practical tools, the app contributes to economic and
environmental benefits. Future plans include expanding ZeroZest’s impact through collaborations with local
authorities and organizations.
