
Unravel Within Walls
As part of a Pair semester project, we were introduced to Unity with the goal of developing an interactive
3D environment. With my background in architecture, I envisioned an immersive virtual space where users could
feel as though they were exploring their own home. My task was to design an environment that would engage
users in completing a to do list of interactive activities within a house.
These interactions included playing audio and video, switching scenes, and dynamically changing camera
perspectives to enhance the sense of immersion. I utilized various assets, including FBX object files for elements
like the player, background, and furniture (TV, radio, bookshelf, etc.), along with animations (idle, sit, dance) and
multimedia files (mp3 and mp4) to bring the space to life.
The result was an interactive, user-centered 3D experience that allowed
users to explore, engage, and visualize themselves within a personalized virtual home.
Situation
As part of a team semester project, we were
introduced to Unity and tasked with developing an
interactive 3D environment. Given my background
in architecture, I aimed to design an experience that would allow users to explore and interact with a
virtual space, simulating the feeling of being
immersed in their own home.
Task
My goal was to create an engaging, interactive
environment where users could explore a to-do list
of activities. These activities included interacting
with various elements in the space, such as audio
and video playback, scene transitions, and dynamic camera switching.
Action
Using Unity, I designed a 3D environment that
utilized a variety of assets, including FBX files for
player models, background elements, and furniture
(TV, radio, bookshelf, etc.), as well as animations
(idle, sit, dance). I integrated multimedia elements,
such as mp3 audio files and mp4 videos, allowing
users to interact with the environment in real-time,
switch scenes, and toggle between different camera perspectives, enhancing the immersive experience.
Result
The project successfully offered users an engaging virtual space that felt personal and interactive. This 3D environment allowed them to explore, visualize,
and interact within a simulated home, reflecting the
immersive capabilities of a user-centered
design approach in virtual environments.
